Necessities For Your Zombie Apocalypse Kit

By Hedrick Lepsch

The entire nation recently suffered through a bitter cold snap that many were not sufficiently prepared for. The polar vortex, as it was called by scientists and propagated by the media, was so severe that it directly lead to several fatalities across the country.

Authorities call winter weather the deceptive killer due to its prospective lethalness being wrapped around such a trivial thing as weather. And while it does not take a polar vortex to make winter weather dangerous for individuals, with the approach of yet another cold front moving through the country those individuals and families that take the time to adequately prepare and plan for the weather will be able to survive its deadly potential.

Sleeping Gear - Sleeping can be the roughest part of camping and that is why you need to make sure that you have a good sleeping bag and pad. If you don't have those simple things then you can kiss your zzzs good bye! You should have a solar flashlight in your sleeping gear as well, just so you move around at night with some idea of where you are going.

Cooking - Having the right gear for cooking is crucial. If you are just going to use a wood fire, you can expect to wait for a good while for things to heat up. Propane stoves can be a godsend that save you a lot of pain and hassle. Utensils, bowls, cups, and trash bags to pack out the rubbish are essential as well.

Next, a person can prepare their vehicle for the dangers of winter driving. While there are a multitude of steps that one can take to ensure that their vehicle is safe for winter driving, some of the more important steps include switching out summer tires for winter snow tires with good tread (and possibly studded snow tires), getting winter fluids in the car that will help the vehicle to keep running well throughout the cold months, and ensuring that the car has an emergency preparedness kit held within it.

Another standard survival kit necessity that can be used really for any survival situation is a radio or other link of communication. Great options include solar powered radios that double as solar powered flashlights, giving individuals the ability to have communications and a light source that are both freed of batteries. Now we delve into the zombie-specific section of the supplies list. First and foremost, if Hollywood has taught us anything, a person should pack their running shoes.

A home can be winterized by undertaking various options, but one of the most important is to ensure that the home has sufficient insulation both in the walls of the home and in the attic. Because heat rises, the attic of the home should be well insulated in order to keep the heat produced in the home within the home.

Likewise, insulating the pipes of the home can help to secure it from winter weather. Un-insulated piping in the home can freeze surprisingly easily and wreak all sorts of havoc.

Keep these things in mind as you set out on your next camping excursion and you can be sure that your experience will be much better than what many people have.
